Pike Lake Dental’s Dental Product Review of
The Humble Co. Dental Floss
Purchased at Sierra Trading Post for $2.99
I bought this floss during a recent shopping outing with my daughters in the Twin Cities. If time allows and there is one, I always take a look in the dental product aisles wherever I shop to see if there is something new I haven’t tried before. On this particular shopping trip, the Sierra Trading Post was a little dental product goldmine! There will be a few reviews of other dental products I purchased from there in the future. For now, I’ll focus on The Humble Co. Dental Floss.
I picked this dental floss up for a few reasons:
- I’ve never tired The Humble Co. brand before
- It is made by a Swedish oral care company (my ancestry is mostly Swedish)
- I’ve rarely tried a floss I don’t like
- I use floss every single day
I was a little rough opening the package because I expected to find a case of floss within the cardboard packaging. I did not expect the cardboard packaging to be the case for the floss. That was a surprise! Right away, I put that fact into my “Things I Don’t Like” category.
The floss is thin and sleek. It felt nice and grippy in my fingers thanks to the wax coating. It also didn’t leave my fingers feeling waxy, which I liked. One great thing about this floss is that it stays intact and doesn’t shred, even on my back teeth that tend to shred my normal floss.
The things I liked about the floss are:
- It’s a decent value for 50 meters (54.6 yards) of floss for $2.99
- They tell you what the floss is made of – Nylon 840d, with candelilla wax and mint oil – which I feel is rare with most dental floss packaging
- It’s sturdy and doesn’t shred
- It’s cruelty free, which I will admit I never thought to look for in dental products before
- The company also funds a charity, the Humble Smile Foundation, that supports vulnerable communities worldwide with sustainable health projects
The things I didn’t like about this floss were:
- The packaging: It’s not “purse sturdy” and it feels weak, which makes me feel like I need to be extra careful with it
- There was no real flavor to the floss – I couldn’t taste the mint at all
- There just wasn’t anything that stood out to me about this floss
Personally, I’d give this floss a 3 out of 5 stars. It was pretty basic floss. The cardboard packaging really threw me off. Overall, in my humble opinion, the floss wasn’t amazing, but it also wasn’t terrible. It was pretty middle of the road for me. I’ll use this floss up at home in my bathroom and I probably won’t buy it again.
I’d recommend this floss to you if:
- You are looking for a basic floss you keep in your bathroom
- You want to recycle your floss packaging
- You read labels and like to know what the product you are using is made of
- You have issues with shredding your floss – this floss is pretty tough
If you’d like to try this floss, the best place I can find to buy it from is The Humble Co for $4.89 or maybe a whole foods store. Sierra Trading Post does not sell it on their website and no local Duluth, MN stores sell it either. That, in my opinion, would be another addition to the “Things I Don’t Like” category for this floss.
In conclusion, although I wasn’t blown away by the actual floss, I do appreciate the information The Humble Co. provided on the packaging. It got me thinking about how other countries label their products differently, as in the list of ingredients, and the fact that I’ve never questioned what is in the other brands of floss I use everyday. Are most dental products cruelty free and just don’t advertise that fact? Also, I kind of liked that there were actual flossing directions on the back of the package. I’ve never seen that before. In its own little way, this basic floss did provoke some additional thoughts for me that my go-to, big brand name floss products have not. If for no other reason than that, I’m glad I bought this floss.
