What we are looking for

We are looking for a friendly and energetic dental assistant for 36-40 hours a week, starting immediately. Compensation for this position depends on each applicant’s skills and dental experience, but typically ranges anywhere from $25-42+ per hour.

A current MN Board of Dentistry Dental Assisting License is preferred, but we can also train for many duties onsite without a license.
An expanded functions certificate is preferred but not required.
We also encourage dental hygienists to apply for this position!

Office hours

Our business hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. We have a morning huddle about 7:45 each morning to go through the schedules as a team and strategize for the day. Our staff typically arrives around 7:30 am for the workday.

More about us

Our four experienced dentists are all easy to work with. They strive to provide a positive and efficient patient experience with every patient, every appointment. Our dental assistants work equally among the four doctors, so you’ll get to experience working with them all. Each doctor has many years of experience and each of them are excellent dental providers with fun and individual personalities.

Here’s a brief summary of each doctor:

Dr. Matt Jugovich is our practice owner and has 30+ years of experience. No matter the issue, his ease of handling every situation is appreciated by staff and patients alike. He works Mondays and Tuesdays at this time.
Dr. Ben Larson is a solid and steady presence with 9+ years of experience. He especially excels at patient communication and putting patients at ease. Dr. Ben works Monday through Thursday.
Dr. Casey Newton has been practicing over 10 years and everyone knows when he is in the office. His energy and outgoing personality can’t be missed. He has young children of his own, so he relates well with kids and adults alike. He is in the office Tuesday through Friday.
Dr. Jenny Perrault has also been in practice for 9+ years. She brings a whole other dynamic to the practice as our only female dentist with a fun and happy spirit that easily wears off on everyone around her. Dr. Jenny is in the office on Mondays and also Wednesday through Friday.

We encourage building new skills and challenging our employees to shine

At this time all of our assistants are LDAs or RDHs. With every one of our dental assistants, we encourage continuing education, learning new skills and challenging themselves in the dental field. One of our assistants is a recent graduate of the expanded functions course at the U of MN. We also have a couple assistants that have completed the new course at the U of MN to be able to administer local anesthetic. These skills not only build the assistants’ knowledge and capabilities, they create an even better dental experience for our patients.

Here are just a few things every dental assistant in our office has the opportunity to learn, depending on their licensing:

Taking CBCT scans.
Taking digital impressions.
Designing crowns for the CEREC.
Learning how to use the 3D printer for models and appliances.
Invisalign! Including training, patient education, treatment plan work ups and treatment.

Ben Larson, D.D.S.

Dr. Ben Larson joined our team in January of 2024, but he is no stranger to the dental profession. He grew up in Rochester and graduated from Luther College in 2003 with a BA in Biology. He taught biology to 7th and 9th graders for 4 years before going back to school at the University of Minnesota to become a dentist. Dr. Larson achieved his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2015. Not long after, he moved to Duluth to work in this beautiful area where he had always wanted to live.

Woodworking and working on projects around the house are a couple of things Dr. Ben enjoys during his time away from the office. It should come as no surprise that he absolutely loves the outdoors. He spent 6 summers leading teenagers on wilderness backpacking and paddling trips. Dr. Ben is always ready for an adventure! He still paddles, skis, hikes, bikes and even kite surfs! If it is a challenge, he is ready for it with his trusty sidekick, Odin, who is part cattle dog, part superhero. Together, they love to adventure off the beaten path.

Adventuring aside, Dr. Ben has a compassionate heart and believes strongly in giving back to the profession he loves. He has participated in many local dentistry missions and has even traveled afar on mission trips, providing dental care in places like rural Panama, Peru and Belize.

Back in Duluth, Dr. Larson highlights getting to know and learn about all sorts of interesting people as his favorite aspects of his job. Getting patients out of pain, preventing future problems and seeing patients gain their confidence back with a renewed smile are all also very satisfying parts to the profession for him.

Dr. Larson brings experience and expertise with him to his job everyday and we are thrilled to have him as an integral part of our Pike Lake Dental Center team. We can’t wait for you to meet him!
