Perio (Gum) Disease Therapy

Perio (Gum) Disease Therapy
Gum disease or periodontitis is an infection of the gums that can lead to bone loss around teeth.  The bacteria that cause gum disease live in the sticky plaque that form on teeth. Good oral hygiene is important to help remove as much plaque as possible, however, when bone loss has occurred around teeth deepening the “pockets’ around the teeth, it is very difficult to clean these areas at home. A professional deep cleaning may be needed called scaling and root planing. This cleans the area between the tooth and the gum to remove any plaque, tartar, and the bacterial build-up.  Everything is left smooth to help prevent bacteria from re-attaching under the gum line and promote healing.
